This is a broad and varied role combining operational HR practice, service development and project delivery, suited to an experienced generalist with a solid grounding in UK employment law.
As part of our dedicated People & Culture team, you will work closely with a fellow Senior HR Adviser to provide expert guidance to staff and managers, managing a diverse caseload across the full employee lifecycle — from employee relations, performance, conduct and sickness absence, through to recruitment, onboarding and staff welfare. You will help managers navigate complex people issues with confidence, knowing when to escalate where legal or reputational risk requires it.
You will be a key point of contact for our UK-based international staff, building relationships with Greenpeace International and NRO People & Culture teams to ensure coordinated, effective support — including advising on hosted staff contracts and managing visa sponsorship processes. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape new HR management arrangements for international staff and establish support structures for multidisciplinary global teams, while building connections across the wider Greenpeace network.
Now mid-way through our three-year People & Culture strategy, you will contribute meaningfully to an ambitious work plan — getting involved in policy development, inclusive recruitment practices, learning and development, and our D&I and anti-racism agenda, working closely with the D&I & Anti-Racism Lead to research, design and implement best practice solutions.
Data and insight are central to how we work. You will be a confident user of our HRIS (Cezanne), drawing on HR data to identify trends, surface risks and make clear recommendations that feed into our strategic priorities. You will also contribute to the continuous improvement of our services — streamlining processes, refining policies and finding smarter ways of working.
To succeed in this role you will bring strong generalist experience, critical thinking skills and the ability to actively model and promote our values, both through service delivery and in how you operate.

Our commitment to diversity
We acknowledge that people from certain backgrounds are under-represented in environmental and campaigning organisations and we’re committed to doing what we can to correct this.
One of our Anti Racism Plan objectives is to proactively achieve stronger representation of people of colour, particularly within leadership positions, and we have recently published ambitious race representation targets.
As part of our commitment to increasing representation of people from underrepresented communities in the environmental sector, we are piloting a Guaranteed Interview Scheme (GIS) as a new approach to make our recruitment more equitable. If you identify as a person of colour, you can choose to opt in to the Guaranteed Interview Scheme.
We will be aiming to offer everyone who opts into the scheme and meets the essential criteria a first stage interview. While we fully intend to honour this, exceptionally high application volumes may affect our capacity. If so, we will communicate clearly and keep candidates informed as we continue to learn and improve.
Greenpeace UK is a global movement of people passionate about defending the natural world. Independent from governments, corporations, and political parties, we are funded by individuals—giving us the freedom to challenge power and drive real change. From our beginnings in 1971, to operating in over 40 countries today, our mission remains urgent: to secure a greener, healthier, and more peaceful planet for generations to come.
