People & Culture - Team Leader

Job Description

The People & Culture team supports over 200 employees and volunteers and plays a central role in helping Leeds Mind remain a great place to work. The team leads core people operations, supports managers with employee relations, oversees recruitment and onboarding, maintains systems and reporting, and delivers work linked to wellbeing, inclusion, learning and development, employee engagement and internal communications

The Role

We are looking for a People & Culture Team Leader to help lead high-quality people operations across Leeds Mind. This is a brilliant opportunity for someone with strong generalist HR experience who is ready for their first HR management role, or who wants a broader leadership opportunity in a values-led mental health charity. 

You will provide practical, day-to-day advice to managers on employee relations matters including absence, conduct, grievance and early informal resolution. You will lead and improve core people processes, oversee people systems and payroll administration, support recruitment and retention, line manage the People & Culture Administrator and Coordinator, and contribute to projects linked to wellbeing, inclusion, learning and development and employee engagement. 

We are particularly keen to hear from people with strong knowledge of employment law, reasonable adjustments, workplace wellbeing and equity, diversity and inclusion, and who can use that knowledge to coach and guide managers with confidence and care. The role requires someone who can balance compliance with compassion, use data well, and build strong working relationships across the organisation.

Essential Skills and Experience: 

• CIPD Level 5 or above, with up-to-date knowledge of employment law, HR practice and people processes. 

• Strong generalist HR experience, including employee relations and people operations 

• Experience of supporting managers with absence management, conduct, performance and other people issues in line with law and good practice. 

• Strong understanding of equity, diversity and inclusion, workplace wellbeing and how these shape good people practice. 

• Experience of leading or supporting HR operations and line management. 

• Confidence using HR systems, people data, reporting and payroll-related processes. 

• Strong written and spoken communication skills, and the ability to coach, influence and build strong relationships with managers.

Hours – 30 Mon-Thurs or Tues-Fri 09:00-17:00. The working pattern is fixed to meet operational requirements and to provide consistent management cover and guidance. 

Contract – permanent

The role is based at Clarence House, Clarence Road, LS18 4LB (max 2 days working from home per week available)
