People Advisor

Job Description

Big on people. Practical by nature. Ready to make a difference?

At Clark-Drain, we’re looking for a People Advisor who can bring sound advice, fresh thinking and a hands-on approach to our small People team.

You’ll be a go-to partner for managers: helping them work through people challenges, build confidence and take ownership. From employee relations cases to smoother processes, this is a role for someone who enjoys getting stuck in—not just pointing to a policy.

Location: Yaxley, Peterborough
Salary: 32k-35k

Hours: 39 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

What you’ll get stuck into

·         Make the tricky stuff clearer. Give managers practical, consistent advice on people matters, applying company policy, employment law and good practice.

·         Own your cases. Independently manage routine and moderately complex employee relations matters—from absence and conduct to grievances, capability and performance—with the judgement to escalate higher-risk issues.

·         Keep the whole journey moving. Support recruitment, onboarding, probation, absence, performance and leavers, working closely with the People Administrator and wider team.

·         Build confidence, not dependency. Coach managers and help develop practical guidance, briefings and learning sessions.

·         Make things work better. Contribute to policy updates, People projects, organisational change and improvements informed by People data.

·         Be a small-team all-rounder. Keep your case records, correspondence and systems up to date, and pitch in with wider administration when the team needs you.

What you’ll bring

·         Experience at HR/People Advisor level, advising managers directly and independently managing a range of employee relations matters.

·         Good working knowledge of UK employment law and HR practice, plus the judgement to know when to ask for support.

·         Experience supporting managers across the employee lifecycle.

·         Relevant HR knowledge and practical experience, with a willingness to work towards CIPD Level 5 with our support—you don’t need to hold the qualification already.

·         A practical, commercially aware approach, clear communication and the confidence to coach and influence.

·         Strong organisation, attention to detail and follow-through—alongside a collaborative, hands-on mindset.

Experience improving HR processes, developing policies or supporting People projects or organisational change would be a bonus.

Why this role?

If you like variety, ownership and turning good ideas into everyday improvements, there’s plenty here to get your teeth into. You’ll work closely with the People Lead and wider team, combining hands-on delivery with advice that helps managers become more confident and capable.

Keep growing with us. We’ll support you through your CIPD Level 5 qualification, helping you build on your practical experience and develop your HR career.

Sound like your kind of role?

We’d love to hear how you turn HR knowledge into practical support.

Don’t tick every box? Don’t count yourself out. If this role excites you and you bring relevant experience, a willingness to learn and a hands-on approach, we’d still love to hear from you. Tell us what you could bring—we’ll support you to keep developing, including working towards your CIPD Level 5.

What you'll earn (you won't find "competitive salary” written instead of a figure on our watch!)

Salary: 32k-35k

Hours: 39 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

What you'll receive in return (Benefits)

Free parking.

After 1 year of service: Enhanced company sick pay and Life assurance.
