HR and Payroll Officer

Job Description

Great HR isn't about paperwork. It's about people.

If you're the sort of person who enjoys solving problems, coaching managers, celebrating successes and occasionally untangling the odd HR puzzle, keep reading.

We're looking for an HR & Payroll Officer who wants to be more than an administrator. Someone who enjoys being visible in the business, building relationships and making a genuine impact

We're not looking for someone to simply process paperwork.

We're looking for someone who enjoys getting stuck in, building relationships, solving problems and making people's working lives better.

Reedbut Group is an independent manufacturer of corrugated packaging, and we've recently completed one of the biggest transformation projects in our history. We've invested heavily in bringing our operations together into a single, newly refurbished manufacturing facility, creating a modern workplace where everyone works under one roof.

It's an exciting time to join us. We're continuing to invest in our people, our processes and the way we work, and we're looking for an experienced HR & Payroll Officer who wants to be part of that journey.

Working alongside our Head of People, you'll help deliver a first-class HR and payroll service while playing an active role in developing our people, supporting our managers and helping to build a culture where everyone can thrive.

If you're someone who enjoys variety, likes being out on the shop floor as much as behind a desk, and believes HR should be visible, approachable and commercially focused, we'd love to hear from you.

What you'll be doing

No two days are the same, but your responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing and coordinating the monthly payroll, including timesheet approvals and pension uploads.
  • Managing the employee journey from offer letter to farewell handshake.
  • Producing contracts, offer letters and employment documentation.
  • Maintaining employee records and our HR system.
  • Carrying out Right to Work checks and ensuring compliance.
  • Managing holiday and sickness records, including conducting Return to Work interviews.
  • Coordinating probation reviews and supporting employee development.
  • Conducting Personal Development Reviews on behalf of managers (whilst we're developing our manager capability) and identifying training opportunities.
  • Supporting recruitment by arranging interviews, preparing offers and coordinating onboarding.
  • Preparing documentation and taking minutes for employee relations meetings.
  • Producing monthly HR reports and weekly productivity reports.
  • Supporting projects that improve the way we work.

What we're looking for

You'll probably already have experience in a HR Officer, HR Advisor or HR & Payroll role and enjoy being part of a busy, fast-moving business - Preferably in an SME/owner-managed environment.

You'll also have:

  • Experience processing payroll or supporting an outsourced payroll provider.
  • Good knowledge of HR administration across the employee lifecycle.
  • Strong organisational skills and excellent attention to detail.
  • Confidence working with managers and employees at all levels.
  • Experience conducting one-to-one meetings such as Return to Work interviews or Personal Development Reviews.
  • Strong IT skills, particularly Microsoft Excel.
  • A proactive approach and the confidence to work independently.
  • A genuine passion for people and continuous improvement.

A CIPD qualification would be great, but experience, attitude and the ability to build relationships are just as important to us.

What you'll get in return

  • Salary of £36,000 - £38,000 depending on experience.
  • Profit share scheme.
  • Life Assurance (2x annual salary).
  • Company pension.
  • 25 days' holiday plus bank holidays.
  • Free on-site parking.
  • Ongoing training and development.
  • The opportunity to build your career in a business that's investing in its people.

Why join us?

This isn't a role where you'll spend your day hiding behind emails or ticking boxes.

You'll be out in the business, getting to know our people, supporting our managers, improving processes and helping shape the future of HR at Reedbut Group.

If you're looking for a role where you can develop your HR career, make a genuine difference and become an integral part of a successful manufacturing business, we'd love to hear from you.

You'll be joining at a unique point in our journey. We've transformed our manufacturing operation, invested in a modern working environment and are now investing just as heavily in our people. This is a chance to help shape what the People function looks like for years to come

What you'll earn (you won't find "competitive salary” written instead of a figure on our watch!)

£36,000 to £38,000 dependent on experience

What you'll receive in return (Benefits)

  • Profit share scheme.
  • Life Assurance (2x annual salary).
