People Business Partner - Hybrid (York)

Job Description

RotaCloud is a growing technology company based in the heart of York, providing employee management software to thousands of businesses across the UK and worldwide.

We’re looking for a People Business Partner to join our People team and play an important role in how People support shows up across RotaCloud: trusted, human, commercially aware and genuinely useful.

Working closely with our Head of People, you’ll support managers, employees and the wider People team across everything from day-to-day advice and employee relations to policy updates, manager coaching and continuous improvements.

What you’ll be doing:

 • Working closely with the Head of People to support the delivery of the People function across RotaCloud

 • Acting as a trusted point of contact for managers and employees on day-to-day and more complex people matters

 • Giving clear, balanced advice that helps people understand their options, risks and next steps

 • Coaching managers through performance concerns, absence issues, difficult conversations and employee relations matters

 • Managing ER cases including investigations, disciplinaries, grievances, absence and performance processes

 • Helping managers address issues early and choose the right approach, whether informal, formal or something in between

 • Supporting our HR Advisor through guidance, context sharing and being a sounding board

 • Keeping our handbook, policies and people guidance up to date as legislation, best practice and business needs change

 • Communicating relevant people updates clearly across the business

 • Spotting themes, risks or recurring issues and helping improve how we support our people

You’ll thrive in this role if you:

 • You’re confident building relationships with stakeholders at different levels across different teams

 • You enjoy variety and are comfortable balancing day-to-day support with more sensitive or complex matters

 • You can stay calm, thoughtful and practical when things are moving quickly, or there are different views involved

 • You’re comfortable working in a small People team where you’ll be close to the detail and able to make a visible impact

 • You have a good sense of judgement and know when to ask questions, offer challenge or escalate

 • You take a thoughtful approach to People work, balancing policy, fairness, risk and what makes sense in the situation

 • You’re naturally curious about the business and want to understand how People decisions affect both employees and commercial outcomes

What we're looking for:

 • Experience in a People role supporting managers and employees through a broad range of day-to-day and more sensitive people matters.

 • Strong employee relations experience, including performance, absence, conduct, capability, disciplinary and grievance matters.

 • Confidence supporting formal People processes such as investigations, hearings, outcomes and case documentation.

 • Coaching mindset and critical listening skills, with the ability to understand what is really driving an issue.

 • Sound judgement, with the ability to consider context, risk, fairness and business needs.

 • Ability to build trust with managers, employees and stakeholders at different levels of the business, providing advice that is clear, balanced and useful.

 • Good working knowledge of employment law, with an interest in keeping up to date with relevant changes, including reviewing and updating HR policies and handbook content.

 • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain sensitive or complex matters clearly.

This is a hybrid role with 2/3 days a week spent in our open-plan office in the centre of historic York and also the flexibility of working in your own home.
