The University of Buckingham is an established provider of 50 years’ standing. Founded in 1976, it is the only independent university in the UK with a Royal Charter, and one of the smallest with approximately 3,700 students. We pioneered the two-year degree, saving students time and money.
Ideals of innovation and entrepreneurship, as well as principles of academic freedom and independence have been threaded through the University’s vision from its commencement. We celebrate students’ unique qualities and foster creativity in small-group class sizes and through teaching excellence.
With more than 26,000 alumni living in 185 countries, the University is a global community of students, scholars, professionals and alumni, sharing a passion for understanding. We inspire and empower graduates to achieve the extraordinary with the mantra of students being a name, never a number.
The University of Buckingham has a unique atmosphere, unlike that of any other higher educational institution. Despite being one of the UK’s smallest university, Buckingham has staff from over 60 countries, making it a truly distinctive work environment. Our size enables us to foster a very personalised, supportive, inclusive and collaborative environment, with lots of opportunity for development, something which we are very proud of.
Buckingham is located in a thriving market town and is surrounded by green spaces. Our riverside campus is the ideal backdrop for studying. It is easily accessible by train and bus – the nearest train station is Milton Keynes, where you can hop on a fast train to London (30 minutes away), Birmingham, Edinburgh, and beyond. The historic cities of Oxford and Cambridge are just a 30-minute bus journey away.
