West Special Fasteners Limited is a well-established UK manufacturer of high-performance and specialist fasteners. Established in 1999, we employ almost 70 people and supply customers across more than 35 countries.

We specialise in hot forging, CNC machining and thread rolling of stainless steels, high-performance and exotic materials. Our products support critical industries including defence, nuclear, offshore & marine, infrastructure, chemical and renewable energy and we are a recent winner of the king’s award for enterprise in innovation.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced and proactive HR Manager to provide a professional, responsive, confident and confidential HR service across the business, taking full ownership of the HR operations within the company.

This is a hands-on, site-based role, working closely with directors and line managers, you will provide practical, commercially aware HR advice, ensuring our people processes are consistent, fair and compliant with employment legislation.

Key Responsibilities

Employee Lifecycle & HR Support

  • Manage the employee lifecycle from recruitment and onboarding through to leaving the business.
  • Conduct and continually improve inductions, probation reviews, employee records, HR documentation and training requirements.
  • Maintain and develop the company training matrix.
  • Support and assist managers with performance, attendance, development and general employee matters, including management coaching where required.

Recruitment & Selection

  • Conduct and carry out recruitment campaigns, interviews, reference and pre-employment checks, supporting managers with effective selection, interviewing and safer recruitment practices.
  • Attract and appoint employees with the right skills, behaviours and potential, aligning with the company’s vision, mission and values.

Employee Relations & Compliance

  • Advise managers on performance, conduct, absence, capability and other employee relations matters.
  • Ensure HR policies and procedures are consistently applied and kept up to date with UK employment legislation.
  • Conduct all employee meetings independently including investigations and disciplinary meetings, handling matters with discretion, sound judgement and appropriate confidentiality.

People Development

  • Work with managers to identify skills gaps and training requirements and create suitable training plans.
  • Coordinate and conduct appraisal meetings, training plan meetings and career development meetings.
  • Help build a culture of accountability, continuous improvement and employee engagement.
  • Support Mangers to get the best out of their employees, including coaching on communication and best practices to achieve an optimal working culture.

About you

We are looking for an experienced HR professional, ideally from a manufacturing background, who is approachable, organised, commercially aware and confident dealing with people at all levels, that can balance the needs of employees with the operational requirements of the business.

You will ideally have:

  • Proven experience in an HR/People Management role.
  • Strong knowledge of UK employment legislation and HR best practice.
  • Experience supporting managers with employee relations.
  • Experience in recruitment, selection, interviewing and onboarding and an understanding of safer recruitment principles.
  • Experience in conducting employee investigation, disciplinary and disciplinary outcome meetings.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and strong organisational skills.
  • The confidence to provide constructive advice to directors, line managers and employees.
  • A practical, proactive and solutions-focused approach.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • CIPD Level 5 or equivalent, or currently working towards this, would be advantageous.

What you'll earn (you won't find "competitive salary” written instead of a figure on our watch!)

Permanent Role | 30–40 hours per week, worked across 5 days | Site-based
Working hours can be agreed between 30 and 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, within our normal working day of 8.00am–4.30pm.
Salary: £37,000–£46,000 per annum pro rata, dependent on experience and agreed working hours.
