HR Generalist / HR Advisor

Job Description

About us

Zion Care is a growing, family-run care provider with 15 care homes across the North of England, the Midlands and Sussex.

We're looking for an experienced HR Generalist / HR Advisor to join our small, busy and knowledgeable HR team.

This is a true generalist role with plenty of variety. You'll have your own portfolio of care homes, working closely with Home Managers and Regional Managers and providing practical HR advice across a broad range of issues.

We're friendly, approachable and down to earth rather than highly corporate, but we take our HR advice seriously and pride ourselves on being professional, knowledgeable and practical.

About the role

No two days are the same. You'll have the opportunity to get involved across the full range of generalist HR, including:

  • Providing practical HR advice and guidance to managers and employees.
  • Taking ownership of your own HR caseload, managing disciplinary, grievance, capability, performance and absence matters, with support from the HR Managers where cases are more complex or higher risk.
  • Working with our external employment law service and gaining exposure to ACAS Early Conciliation and employment tribunal matters.
  • Supporting the onboarding and integration of new homes and employees following TUPE transfers as the business grows.
  • Assisting with recruitment, onboarding, training and other employee lifecycle activities.
  • Supporting HR systems, records, reporting, compliance and HR projects.

About you

We're looking for someone with previous generalist HR experience who is confident providing advice and managing employee relations matters.

You'll have:

  • A good understanding of UK employment law and HR best practice.
  • Experience managing disciplinary, grievance, absence, capability and performance cases.
  • Strong investigation, organisation and case management skills.
  • The confidence to advise and appropriately challenge managers.
  • Good judgement and the ability to recognise when further advice or escalation is needed.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong working relationships.
  • Confident using HR systems and learning new technology.
  • A practical, solutions-focused approach and the ability to prioritise in a busy environment.

Level 5 CIPD qualified or working towards it is preferred, although relevant experience will be considered.

Care sector experience and/or experience of working with employees who have visa or immigration requirements would be advantageous but is not essential.

A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle is required, as occasional travel to our care homes will be needed.
