What does it mean to be a Verdon Timber Group HR Advisor?

We are seeking a suitably experienced HR Advisor to support our Verdon Timber Group Sites.

This is a flexible, part-time role, suitable for applicants seeking between 15 and 22.5 hours per week. Working days and hours can be discussed as part of the interview process.

The HR Advisor will play a key role in partnering with the senior operations team to effectively deliver the People strategy. This role will be instrumental in supporting the implementation of key people plans across the sites.

Verdon Timber operates from two sites in Leicestershire. Our Cadeby site supplies bulk timber into a wide range of markets, alongside manufacturing build packs for regional and national housebuilders. Our Newbold Verdon site specialises in the manufacture of pallets, crates, and export packing, supplying customers throughout the Midlands and beyond.

We employ approximately 60 people across our two sites, many of whom have been valued members of the team for many years. As we continue to invest in and grow both operations, this is an exciting time to join the business.

HR Advisor role responsibilities

  • Agree and support the implementation of People plans with all key customers ensuring the link to the business objectives are clear.
  • Support managers to deal effectively with all performance management issues and processes including disciplinary, grievance, capability and sickness issues in line with company policies and procedures.
  • Train and coach managers in all aspects of people management, including use of our HR systems.
  • Identify training and development needs and offer solutions and advice to support managers to deliver the agreed training programmes.
  • Building people management and leadership capability through coaching, to ensure that issues are dealt with proactively.
  • Contributing and supporting the continuous improvement of HR systems, practices, and policies, ensuring they underpin the company values.
  • Supporting the development and delivery of a HR objectives aligned to the business strategy.
  • Change management such as redundancy and consultations for contract changes.
  • Supporting the wellbeing calendar and continuous promotion of wellbeing initiatives for colleagues.
  • Support the annual colleague engagement survey and colleague engagement boards.
  • Analysing, interpreting, and presenting a wide variety of HR KPIs to identify and understand key issues and concerns in the business.

What are the requirements to become part of our team?

Essential:

  • Working towards or CIPD qualified to L3 or L5.
  • Used to working on own initiative in a fast-paced commercial environment.
  • Experience of implementing and utilising online HR System.
  • Up to date in interpreting, advising and implementing policies and procedures in regard to Employee relations.
  • Experience as an HR Adviser to senior leaders for at least two years.
  • Competent with Microsoft packages including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Valid UK Driving Licence.

Desirable:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent.
  • Experience of operating in a high-volume and fast-moving environment within the manufacturing or merchanting industry.

Experience:

  • HR Advisor: 2 years (required)
  • implementing and utilising HR system: 2 years (required)
  • advising on HR policies & procedures: 2 years (required)
  • full Microsoft Office suite: 2 years (required)

Licence/Certification:

  • Level 3 or 5 CIPD qualification or be working towards it (required)
  • Full UK Driving Licence (required)

What you'll earn (you won't find "competitive salary” written instead of a figure on our watch!)

£36 - £38k per annum pro rata
