Enjoy solving people problems and developing people? This could be the role for you.

Ward is one of the UK's leading independent recycling and waste management businesses. With a turnover of over £300 million, more than 550 employees and operations across multiple locations, we're a successful family-owned business with ambitious plans for the future.

Despite our size, we've retained the pace, pragmatism and entrepreneurial spirit that have been part of our business for generations. We're not a large corporate organisation. Decisions are made quickly, relationships matter and people are trusted to get on with the job.

We're looking for an experienced HR Advisor to join our HR team and become a trusted partner to managers across the Group.

This is a broad and varied role combining employee relations, management coaching, training design & delivery and people projects. You'll spend time out in the business, supporting managers, resolving people issues and helping develop management capability across a diverse operational workforce.

What you'll be doing

  • Managing a varied employee relations caseload including disciplinary, grievance, capability and absence management matters.
  • Conducting investigations and supporting managers through formal HR processes.
  • Providing practical, commercially focused advice on employment law, company policy and HR best practice.
  • Coaching managers to improve confidence and capability in managing their teams.
  • Designing and delivering management training workshops.
  • Creating practical learning resources, guidance materials and management toolkits.
  • Supporting wellbeing, occupational health and employee engagement activities.
  • Contributing to HR projects, process improvements and wider people initiatives.
  • Building strong working relationships with managers across multiple sites and business entities.

What we're looking for

  • CIPD Level 5 qualified.
  • Proven experience managing employee relations casework.
  • Strong working knowledge of UK employment law.
  • Experience conducting investigations and supporting formal HR processes.
  • Experience coaching and influencing managers.
  • Experience delivering training or management development activities.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • A practical, common-sense and solutions-focused approach.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel regularly.

Why join Ward?

This is a role for someone who enjoys being a HR professional and has a passion for L&D too.

You'll have the opportunity to manage a wide variety of employee relations matters, work closely with managers across the business and play a key role in developing management capability.

We value expertise, sound judgement and practical solutions. You'll be trusted to manage your own workload, build strong relationships and make a genuine contribution to the success of the business.

If you're looking for a hands-on HR role, with some Learning and Development responsibility, where no two days are the same and where you can make a real impact, we'd love to hear from you!
